Tangier... It has been a long and tiring vacation - but an excellent one. Today in Tangier winds it down with only a couple of places on my list to visit. My vacation comes to an end - back to Casablanca and Rick's and a Covid test and then on to the plane home. There always seemed to be LOTS of taxis everywhere in every other city I visited. Tangier was much the same - lots of taxis. However, they all seemed to be occupied when I wanted to go from my hotel to the Mohammed V Mosque. Following my Google Maps on my phone, I started in that direction expecting to catch an empty cab on the way... that didn't happen. The first time in Morocco that I had a problem getting a cab. After looking over and shooting some pictures of the mosque (non-Muslims are not allowed into mosques other than the very few with tours at certain hours. Happily, there was a gas station near the mosque and I noticed taxis getting gas. I was finally able to get an empty taxi and went on to the American Legation Museum - way, way too far to walk, especially with a long walk already behind me. |

American Legation Museum Once the US consulate building and the oldest American diplomatic post in the world. Morocco was the first country to recognize the newly independent USA and established its legation here in Tangier in 1821. The museum inside traces the history of the relationship between the US and Morocco, and the exhibits inside include George Washington's famous letter to Moulay Abdullah. This is a lovely old building in great shape and nicely furnished in period furniture and much history on display here of America's longest formal diplomatic relationship. |
