Casco Viejo - aka Casco Antiguo or even San Felipe is the historic district of Panama City. The city was completed in 1673 as a rebuild of the original which was attacked and destroyed by pirates in 1671. Panama City was founded in 1519. Some buildings in Casco Viejo are VERY old! It is a colorful, beautiful area with a number of small parks throughout. I didn't spend as much time as I would like to have... hopefully in a couple days I will get back again to see more of it.

Panama Canal Museum The museum is on beautiful Independence Square and has many, many artifacts and pictures from the time the canal was started by the French through the takeover by the USA and completion and operation thereafter. Unfortunately, much is in Spanish without English translation. But the presentations are quite modern and use new technology. |
