Spectacularly Clean Santo Domingo...
Many years ago (1970s) I worked during the pipeline season out of Singapore and in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea. Singapore was always so clean! Now I have, for the 1st time, seen its equal. Tourist areas and everywhere - CLEAN! No litter, not even the stray cigarette butt. Like in Singapore, I have seen a few people working to sweep up trash. I've even seen homeless people (apparently) along road / street sides completely clean or maybe some organized trash obviously awaiting pickup.
There is an amazing number of small parks - it reminds me of Panama City in that respect. Happily for me, I don't usually have to walk too terribly far in the heat without finding a park with a shady spot to take a break and drink some water.
Teleférico de Santo Domingo
The Teleferico of Santo Domingo is a cable car system running a little over 3 miles through 4 stations. There was a little, brief sprinkle of rain just before I got on. It gives a bird's eye view of many of the neighborhoods of the city. It is also a transport system for locals, just like the bus. People can get on or off at any of the stations.

Faro a Colon / Columbus Lighthouse
Here is a mausoleum deemed to contain the remains of the world-famous explorer (it has been genetically proven Columbus is NOT there). The old lighthouse facilitated navigation for vessels coming to the Dominican Republic and is now known as an iconic historical landmark of the city
