OBSERVATIONS: Today the Grand Palace complex which includes the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. After entry the complex begins with the complex of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Breathtaking and astounding barely do justice to the sights here. There is just so much literally crammed together that it is overwhelming. I was disappointed that pictures were not allowed inside the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Then one leaves the Temple complex and into the Grand Palace complex. The Grand Palace itself is not terribly noteworthy on the outside - but one can just imagine what the inside must be from everything that is surrounding within this complex. |

As one leaves the Grand Palace complex, there is a small museum. It presents a wealth of information and insight on the building of any/all of the various temples and structures. To the RIGHT and BELOW are some of the molds used to make some of the many decorative features that are the outer facade as well as samples of some pieces. Pieces are molded and decorated and then attached to the various structures. This is not entirely unlike modern building where the building is built and then a "skin" of granite or marble is added to the outside of the building. That doesn't lessen the intricacy of the many types of decorations used and the millions of small pieces of glass, ceramics, and paints used to create all of the thousands of pieces attached. |
