OBSERVATIONS:

Even a day with disappointments can still be a great day. That's exactly what this day was. The Temple of the Heavenly Daughter was pretty much closed and no one was around. On the other hand, even though the doors to the temples were locked - they were locked by iron gates that still allowed me to get some decent pictures. And I was really looking forward to seeing the Royal Barges. I should have known when the taxi driver couldn't find an entrance and a guard nearby gave directions for a pathway that things weren't going to be the best. After a walk along literally a path between houses that was at least a quarter mile I did arrive at the museum. This had to be the back way in - when it's open there must be a front entrance. Anyway, it was closed due to high water flooding over the walkways normally used by tourists. Again, though, the cloud has a slightly silver lining - I did get 1 nice shot of the front ends of the barges,,, better than nothing!

Temple of the Heavenly Daughter This site is divided between two main sections. The main Buddha is in the West building and carved from pure white stone - hence the name The White Buddha.

The East building, known as Bhikkhuni Viharn has an image of Buddha's step-mother and very rare images of 52 female Bhikkunis surrounding an image of Mahapajapati Gotami.

A Bhikkuni is an ordained female monastic in Buddhism; males are called Bhikkhus.

Mahapajapati Gotami was the foster mother / step-mother and maternal aunt of the Buddha
