Final Day in India... The time has about come to head home. I did manage to get out just a bit today to one place I wanted to see. I'm completely worn down by both the travel and the walking pneumonia. But I resolved to do at least something today. Tonight I'll be packing and getting ready to fight the airports tomorrow and Friday for that long trip home. It's been great - mostly. Being away and by oneself in a foreign country and getting somewhat under the weather just isn't something I like. It'll be good to get home. |

Agrasen ki Baoli / Ugrasen ki Baoli This place is old enough there seems to be little certainty as to when it was begun - apparently somewhere between 300 BC and 300 AD - suffice to say it is old. This is a historical monument that is an ancient water reservoir which rises from the depths of the earth to stand atop 103 stone steps. Hidden between modern structures, a school, and businesses it is a quiet, relaxing spot that can take one far back in time. It is about 50 feet wide by about 200 feet long and there is water near the bottom covering the very lowest portions. Some scenes from Bollywood movies have been shot here. There is a small, ancient mosque here, as well. Agrasen ki Baoli is quite famous for urban legends of hauntings and incidents. Many people consider it to be haunted and it has been the center of many paranormal activities. Legend has it that the reservoir was once filled with mystical dark waters that compelled people to jump in to commit suicide. In the more modern times, it is said that the place casts an evil spell on visitors that stay over at this destination after dusk. The presence of several nocturnal beings such as bats and owls only elevate the bizarre quotient of this place. Haunted or not, these happenings do make up for interesting stories and make this destination even more intriguing. |
