Colby Lighters / (Bing) Crosby Research Foundation
Colby Lighter Corp. was at least partially, and possibly fully, owned by actor/singer Bing Crosby through Crosby Research Foundation. c. late 1940s. They produced lighters from the mid-1940s on through the 1950s. The lighters were made of a metal known as Monel.
Crosby Research Foundation was owned by singer Bing Crosby. CRF had an important influence on the recording industry through early patents on tape recording processes and also pioneered the "Laugh Track". CRC was also involved in the ownership of Ampex, which produced the first reel to reel tape recorders.
