Evans Table Lighters

Cloisonne / Guilloche: Evans' catalogs refer to their Guilloche lighters as 'cloisonne'. No stretch of the word 'cloisonne' makes the term correct for these lighters.

Limoge: Some lighters, in addition to being referenced in Evans' materials as cloisonne is referenced in other materials a s'Limoges' - French enamel. Limoge is a French city and is also the name for a certain process of applying enamels to copper and pottery.

Here, both Evans' terms Limoge and Cloisonne are referenced as Guilloche.

Evans / Royal Doulton Table Lighter

c. late 1950s - early 1970s. Royal Doulton produced a number of figural lighter bases and inserts from Evans, Colibri, and other companies were used in them. The figures included: Bacchus, Beefeater, Buz Fuz, Captain Ahab, Captain Cuttle, Falstaff, Long John Silver, Mr. Micawber, Mr. Pickwick, Porthos (Musketeer), Old Charley, Poacher, Rip Van Winkle, Lawyer, Sairey Gamp.

Evans TopKick Table Lighter

c. 1945. Punchboard prize - lighter and mount form 'folding military cap' look alike for the Top Kick (top sergeant). The unit has a music box base and rotates and plays music; also sold as a table lighter.

Evans Trig-A-Lite Table Lighter

c. 1937

Evans Spitfire Table Lighters

Made from 1940 onwards. Many of these lighters were sold as sets including an ash tray piece and, in some cases, with a cigarette storage case. The brass 1947 Magic Lamp is one of the old examples using sawdust as packing instead of cotton or wool - just as was done in some pocket lighters.
