Shalco Florida Lighter
While this is a state lighter, it isn't part of the "states" series of lighters produced by several companies in the early to mid-1950s. This one has a plastic type wrap with the state pictirals on it; the "real" states series lighters had raised metal work and enamel painting on them. c. late 1950s.

Shell Fire Catalytic Lighter
c. mid-1940s While there is no real difference between this and many other catalytic lighters in the inner works, this is very unusual in the bullet design of the case. It was marketed as "The National Defense Lighter".

Silver Match Laurimet Butane Lighter
A very interesting lighter! There is a safety piece of plastic on the end (the green piece at the very top) which is slid off prior to lighting the lighter. To light the end is squeezed into the body causing the spark wheel to strike the flint and opening the gas valve. For filling or changing flint, the entire mechanism is removed from the plastic box container and is clear plastic - see the additional photos for detailed pictures. While most are marked with Manufacturer and model, some aren't.

With only wadding and no wick, this seems to be an alcohol fueled lighter - which tends to date it prior to 1920.

These examples have a crackel finish, such as used on wartime lighters, but in color. Flint and fill are on the bottom as this is not a flip top case lighter as most similar looking (e.g. Zippo) lighters are. c. 1947.
