Negbaur Mystic Torch Table Lighter
circa 1938 - While not exactly a touch tip lighter, that is essentially what this is. The touch tip has a heating coil in the wand; this lighter has the heating coil inside the lighter where the wand is touched. The lighter operates on two "C" size batteries and when the wand is inserted in the slot it makes a circuit which heats the element and, in turn, lights the wick on the wand. This lighter still had the old, original General Dry Batteries, advertised as "World's Finest Flashlight Battery", and I'm inclined to agree after seeing the excellent condition of these batteries after nearly 70 years! No leakage or corrosion!

c. mid-1940s. The insert for this lighter was clearly made by Negbaur; it is not clear whether the lighter was made and marketed by Negbaur. Negbaur made the inserts for many lighters sold by other companies.
