Marathon Klix Case & Lighter
c. late 1940s - early 1950s. This set uses a Marathon case paired with a Ronson lighter core - no doubt from the Ronson patent settlement which required some companies to purchase lighters from Ronson for sales.

Marathon Cartridge Butane Lighter
This is a flint & butane lighter with a cartridge that holds the fuel. The cartridge is designed to be replaced, but is possibly refillable a few times with the correct adapter, if one can be found. To refill, the jet is removed and a valve is below that. When operating the lighter, the gas jet opens the tank valve; for refilling an adapter would have to do the same.

Maruman T2 / T8 Butane 'Hi-Beam' Table Lighter
If Maruman excelled at anything, it had to be design and this is a prime example of beautiful design in a cigarette lighter. The T2 came out first, of course, circa 1961 and seems to have won the 1st Prize in the New York International Lighter Fair. The T2 is an electric lighter powered by battery (2 "C" cells) that power both the lights as well as an electric coil that heats to ignite the flame; the T8 is piezoelectric and came out somewhat later, circa late 1960s (the 1st piezoelectric was introduced by Maruman in 1965). The "C" size batteries control and power a light that shines upward to illuminate the lead crystal - first push produces red (along with flame) and release produces a blue light while the flame burns - another push of the button shuts the flame and light off. The base is black plastic with fittings in gold plated brass and a lead crystal top. The patent is the 1968 patent (filed 1965) for the piezoelectric device, not this specific lighter and shows up on the T8 with the US patent filing number (516944), not the granted patent number. The T8 was called the Hi-Beam.
As shown in the picture links below, the T2 operates off a battery powered heating coil which ignites the butane. The ignition coil and housing were easily pulled off for replacement - the lighter shipped with an extra coil.
