GloLite Midget

The lighter is sitting on a penny, to give an idea of size. This is a very small Lektrolite-like lighter that is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the Lektrolite GloPoint - which is twice as big. The lighter is marked 'GloLite Corp.' - NY, NY but Lektrolite marketed the GloLite Midget in thir 1936 catalog and it is identical to this one.

Filling this lighter is accomplished by pulling out the element which has a wick (much larger and more than a standard lighter wick) attached to the bottom. The wick material is soaked with Methyl alcohol and placed back in the bottom part of the lighter. Air flow is assured by presence of a spring in the bottom to keep the wick material away from the bottom of the container and to make certain the little tube at the bottom of the wicking material can get air drawn through it. c. mid-1930s

Lektrolite Pipe Lighter

1930s - 1940s. This is simply a GloPoint with a rubber fixture added to seal it to the top of a pipe in order that air can be drawn through the pipe bowl (no heat is produced if air is not drawn through bringing with it the methanol vapors).

LeStique

Japan

LeStique Butane Lighter

c. late 1970s Interesting mechanism in this long, square butane lighter sized to fit in a cigarette pack (King size) in place of one cigarette. Butane fill valve on the bottom. The spark wheel / flint tube pulls out to replace the flint and to do the gas adjustment - which is a screw in the bottom of the hole the flint tube goes into. The flint tube seals this compartment with an O-Ring and the gas comes into the compartment below the flint and then through a tiny hole and on into the tube where the flame is. Removing the cap moves a small lever to allow the gas to flow; replacing the cap closes the valve. This lighter was pricey at $16. and sold at stores such as Bloomingdale's and Sak's Fifth Avenue.

Lift-O-Lite

Lift-O-Lite Table Lighter

c. mid-1950s. As you pick it up it is activated and lights! There is no manufacturer name on the lighter, box, or paperwork - only on the lighter itself is marked 'Augusta Patent'. Since the 'Lift-O-Lite' name is not on the lighter itself, these are frequently sold on eBay as 'Augusta' table lighters, which they are not; they use the Augusta Patent. The same lighter was sold later as a butane 'Light-O-Matic'.

Lighthouse Automatic Lighter

c. 1930 This lighter has a most unusual mechanism! The button that is depressed to cause the lighter to spark and light detaches from the snuffer cap assembly. The snuffer cap assembly is then pulled out of the lighter in order to change flint. Very similar to White Liter.

Lord Chesterfield Butane Squeeze Lighter

An unusual lighter as squeeze type butane lighters are seldom seen. More unusual is that this requires replaceable canisters - and very light weight and unusual ones at that - the valve is part of the lighter and seems designed to punch through the seal on the canister to get the gas. The lighter has a great feel in the hand - but had to be dangerous because of the fuel scheme. c. early 1950s.
